Taking Care of Our Local Community
by Kirsten Thompson (Shakti)

Each month we support our local community by providing food and essential supplies to local soup kitchens.
The morning of August 28 we cooked two big pots of a hardy soup made with the organic vegetables from our garden and local farmer’s market for the soup kitchen “Willits Daily Bread”. The soup fed 50 – 70 homeless people that evening.
It was a beautiful team effort to prepare the soup. Many hands helping to chop all the vegetables. When the soup was done the pots were put on the Dattatreya stage so that the blessings of the Guru Parampara would touch the souls of the people who eat it.
When Isa, my daughter, and I arrived at Willits Daily Bread with the soup, Cindy, the director of the soup kitchen, greeted us with big warm hugs and a huge welcome. We went inside to get some carts, lifted the heavy soup pots out of the car onto them and wheeled the soup inside the kitchen. Cindy’s helpers were in the kitchen and greeted us with a lot of love.
They all said out loud: “And there is the Divine Lineage with their soup again!” It was a very welcoming and heartwarming salute.
They also shared with us how much our financial contributions help them keep going, especially as they are receiving less from the community, as times are getting tighter.
Cindy then shared that people really enjoy eating the soup and that as usual the soup was smelling really nice and they everybody would like to eat some right away.
We feel blessed to be able to support our local community in Mendocino County and are grateful to all those supporting our charitable programs which makes this possible.
with love,
