Tak­ing Care of Our Local Com­mu­nity

Each month we sup­port our local com­mu­nity by pro­vid­ing food and essen­tial sup­plies to local soup kitchens.

The morn­ing of August 28 we cooked two big pots of a hardy soup made with the organic veg­eta­bles from our gar­den and local farmer’s mar­ket for the soup kitchen “Willits Daily Bread”. The soup fed 50 – 70 home­less peo­ple that evening.

It was a beau­ti­ful team effort to pre­pare the soup. Many hands help­ing to chop all the veg­eta­bles. When the soup was done the pots were put on the Dat­ta­treya stage so that the bless­ings of the Guru Parampara would touch the souls of the peo­ple who eat it.

When Isa, my daugh­ter, and I arrived at Willits Daily Bread with the soup, Cindy, the direc­tor of the soup kitchen, greeted us with big warm hugs and a huge wel­come. We went inside to get some carts, lifted the heavy soup pots out of the car onto them and wheeled the soup inside the kitchen. Cindy’s helpers were in the kitchen and greeted us with a lot of love.

They all said out loud: “And there is the Divine Lin­eage with their soup again!” It was a very wel­com­ing and heart­warm­ing salute.

They also shared with us how much our finan­cial con­tri­bu­tions help them keep going, espe­cially as they are receiv­ing less from the com­mu­nity, as times are get­ting tighter.

Cindy then shared that peo­ple really enjoy eat­ing the soup and that as usual the soup was smelling really nice and they every­body would like to eat some right away.

We feel blessed to be able to sup­port our local com­mu­nity in Men­do­cino County and are grate­ful to all those sup­port­ing our char­i­ta­ble pro­grams which makes this possible.

Kirsten Thomp­son (Shakti) began her stud­ies with Sri Kalesh­war in 2000 and served full- time at his ashram in Penukonda, India for many years. Fol­low­ing Sri Kaleshwar’s instruc­tions, she moved to the US to help man­age the Divine Lin­eage Heal­ing Cen­ter in Lay­tonville, CA and has been help­ing take care of the Cen­ter ever since. One of Kirsten’s many dharmic works is over­see­ing the Center’s char­i­ta­ble out­reach pro­grams in Men­do­cino County which pro­vide essen­tials for those in need within one of the poor­est coun­ties in Cal­i­for­nia.
